Summer Prints With Ash & Elle | Stripes

August 25, 2014

Happy Tuesday! Today my fabulous friend, Ashley, of Twenties Girl Style and I are back styling stripes for our Summer Prints series. I chose to style a striped top with this flowy, chiffon-like maxi skirt from Nordstrom Rack. I only paid $7.97 for this, by the way! Can you believe the deal?! Floral on stripes is one of my favorite print mixing combos, so I had to squeeze it in before I retire my floral print and the rest of my summer wardrobe. Fall is almost here! I've been dying for a pumpkin muffin, people. Hope you have a fabulous day :)

Things That Are New

January 02, 2014

Hello everyone! Just sharing a fun print mixing outfit.  One of the things I consider when print mixing is pairing like colors for a more united look.  Also, I'm trying to figure out why I have never worn skirts and booties before.  This will definitely change.  Anyway, I'm here to be a little more transparent today rather than just a normal outfit post- I've been feeling so inspired by things that are NEW, and I can't wait to share my goals for 2014. I'm such a goal-oriented person. I don't function unless I have something to work towards… so here goes.

Four things I'd like to keep in mind in 2014:

1: Have JOY | I've decided that "joy" is my word for 2014. I want to find as much joy as possible in the mundane little things that I seem to be unappreciative of amidst my busy weekly schedule.  With working full-time, taking grad school classes full-time, blogging, trying to have somewhat of a social life, and having time for myself, life just seems to get very very busy. I want to change my attitude and just try and find the joy instead of living with stress. It's all about attitude, right?

2: Stay Connected | I have a very big family, and a huge network of friends that I've known for a long time. I want to make it a goal to stay connected with my family.  I want to be better at showing appreciation for my family and the relationships that I value so much, but never take the time to express.

3: Live Healthily | I am making some necessary lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, exercising more, and lowering my level of stress [mentally that is]. I'm participating in the Whole 30 challenge during the month of January, and I actually have started working with a personal trainer to help me maintain a routine exercise schedule.  With personal training sessions twice a week for the next four months, I'm bound to make exercise a habit, no? Anyway, I know I'm young, but I want to make these changes to my lifestyle before I start a family and life gets even busier than it already is!

4: Give |  I dedicate a great deal of time to my job and its' requirements, but I don't want to be a "giver" only within the context of my job. Whether I'm giving my personal time, money, or words of appreciation and thankfulness, I want to be someone who is remembered as "the servant of all" and I know that sounds weird because "servant" has a very odd connotation to it.  But really all it means is that I want to do all I can to enrich other's lives, because after all, it all comes back to relationships, right? That's what we live for.

What are some goals you've set for 2014? I'd love to hear them and discuss!

Fall Fashion With LuLu*s | Print Mixing

November 27, 2013

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's the day before Thanksgiving! Today I'm thankful for my amazing family, my wonderful husband, and all of my dear friends.  I am also thankful for a job that keeps me humbled, inspired, and thankful every single day, not just on Thanksgiving.

On another note, this is my third post of four in the series Fall Fashion With LuLu*s.  For this particular outfit I chose to mix an unexpected duo: camo and leopard!  The husband was not too fond of it, but I happen to really like them together!  I followed the very important print mixing advice I shared in this video which is to make sure and pair bigger prints with smaller prints.  I cannot even tell you how much of a gem this jacket is.  I wear it with every print in the book- polka dots, stripes, sequins, and I've even worn it will a Fall-hued floral dress.  Hope you have a lovely holiday! Thank you so much for reading!

Herringbone // Dots

November 11, 2013

Happy Monday, fashionistas.  I hope you're having a fabulous day so far.  I'm here to share an outfit that I wore a couple of weeks ago when I went apple picking for Fall!  Our day was glorious… there was cider donuts, apple cider, every type of fresh apple you can imagine, and even apple pie.  It was absolutely wonderful to catch some fresh air in the gorgeous mountains.  It was sort of chilly since we were so high up, so I was able to use a little layering action.  Do you think print-mixing will every be "out" again? I feel like it's been an ongoing trend for many seasons now.  I hope it's here to stay, as it's one of my favorite aspects of styling an outfit!

Have a great week! Thank you so much for reading!

Crop With A Pop

September 23, 2013

Wearing: H&M top (similar) | thrifted skirt (similar) | 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target bag | Nine West Heels (save/spend) | Macy's sequin cuff | Leather bracelet c/o Papa East Fashion | Target Tortoise Watch (similar) | House of Harlow Sunglasses | Baublebar Twitter Necklace

I've always wanted to try a crop top, but I'm not typically one to fork over a lot of money towards a trendy item.  So when I spotted this $5 crop top at H&M a few weeks ago, I knew it was meant to be.  I tried this crop top on with a few other pieces, but didn't seem to like it much with anything other than my pencil skirts!

It's funny because I walked out wearing this, and my husband just said, "That looks like something Jennifer Aniston would wear in Friends" (we watch a lot of Friends in my household… best 90's sitcom ever.)  I decided I'd take that as a compliment, then preceded to explain why I've been wearing overalls, tiny floral prints, and crop tops lately… don't you know that we're having 90's throwback trends here in 2013?!  Hope you all have an amazing week!

Thank you so much for reading!
