Mommy & Me Fall Outfits + Fashion Link-Up

September 07, 2016

A bit of mommy and me Fall outfit inspiration for you! Boy moms, you could easily have our baby boy wear this vest with a white tee and jeans too! Looking at these photos is pretty funny to me. She was way more into that drink than taking pictures with me. But doesn't she look so stylish?! Babies in any sort of vest or jacket is just perfection anyway!

I swear I've had the same utility vest for years and years! It is never an item that goes out of style, am I right?!

Motherhood | How To Live in The Moment

May 02, 2016

Hi beautiful friends! With Mother's Day coming up, I'm feeling awfully sentimental. Do you ever have those days where you feel like you're being pulled in one trillion directions? The laundry needs to be done, but you have a conference call, and have to cook dinner, or maybe you are running from school to school picking up your kids, or going to this soccer game or that softball event. Life can get SO busy. I am writing this post, mainly for myself, so that I can remember to stop, breathe, and try to live in the moment as best as I can. Here are some helpful tips...
Breathe.
When I am feeling overwhelmed, and realize that I'm a total bundle of nerves, I have to close my eyes, and think about what matters most... my family. This always helps me focus on what I should be truly worrying about.
Be Silly.
Making Grace laugh is one of my favorite stress-relievers. I was so annoyed that there were so many things going on in my kitchen tonight - dishes to be done, food on the floor, and a husband who was upstairs doing God knows what... I felt alone and like my giant to-do list was going to consume me, then as I wiped up the crumbs from the floor beneath her high chair I peeked up and saw her sweetly smiling at me, then she let out a sweet chuckle. Instead of being frustrated I decided to forget the crumbs, and continue playing peek-a-boo with her. I made a mental note to do this again, as it was quite a popular game!
Know You Aren't Alone.
There are tons of wives and moms going through what you are, and possibly more. This is why community is SO important in Motherhood. My Mom Tribe, and my Birth Club, and real life friends have been amazing avenues of support when I'm stressed or worried. Also, know that there are others out there that are way worse off. I think about where I was a year ago, and I was such a mess. Grace's birth was a tragic one, and I thank God, every day that I don't have to relive that horror. I'll take the messy house, long to-do list, and dirty hair over a terrible hospital stay, any day!
Try To See The World Through A Child's Eyes.
Everything in Grace's life seems so simple. This holds true for older kiddos too. When I taught Kindergarten, I had a student make a "to-do" list one morning of things she needed to get done. On it, she wrote... "wake up, get dressed, fill up a bucket (from the Bucket Filler classroom management technique haha), and go to Mrs. K's house" hahaha. What a beautifully simple life! Wake up... the first thing on her to-do list, and yet such an important one.

Grace is obsessed with birds. As we are having this photo above taken, she is looking at birds, and I'm pointing over to where they are and saying "bird" to her. She's been going through a phase now where she just loves to gaze up at the birds soaring through the sky, or the trees dancing in the wind. Let me tell you, if you haven't taken a second to stop. take a deep breath. and looked around at the leaves as they move back and forth on the branches, try it! It's absolutely inspiring, and again, puts things into great perspective for me.
Snuggle.
Nothing is better than baby or even kid snuggles. They grow up SO quickly, and as each year passes, I want to reflect and not question "did I hug, kiss, talk with, read to, or encourage my kids enough?" Try to set aside 20 minutes a day (at least) that focus on just your kids. Obviously for moms and dads of less independent babies/toddlers will spend lots more time with them since they're tiny, but school-aged children need that social interaction too.

I don't like to judge, and there's probably a god reason, but I see parents out with their kids often, and they will be on the computer (laptop) or phone, or iPad, and not even paying attention to the children as they climb the tree, or win a game of tag. Children love affirmation and obviously your attention is the key. Again, no judging, just an observation as a teacher, and now parent...just want to remind everyone that these are simply my guidelines/reminders to myself to live in the moment, and it may look different for someone else.
...because these moments are fleeting, and I want to soak them up as best I can.

Mommy & Me Style Ideas

March 27, 2016

Hi beautiful friends! Happy Monday! I'm super excited to share some cute ideas for 'Mommy & Me' styles! Believe it or not, with Easter over, Mother's Day is coming up sooner than we think, and it may be time for a sweet 'Mommy & Me' photoshoot to celebrate!

I love matching with my little daughter, and I personally think that mamas matching with their sons is the cutest thing ever as well! I have two outfits to share with you (one of them you've seen before here) where I match with Gracie!

The first is a super cute grey tee from The Blue Envelope that says 'Mama' and Gracie has a little ragland tee that says 'Love' on it! We both have red accents that help tie the outfits together, and let me just say that a boy could EASILY style this outfit! (That's why I had Grace wear her cute, little denim jeggings, so I could show you that any mama can easily match with their little boy!

The second outfit is from a previous post, but it's just too good not to share twice! (See the original post here), the pink and flowy maxi skirt is from Ruby Claire Boutique, and the top is from Loved by Hannah & Eli.

In both posts, I have on my amazing Far More Than Rubies mama metal necklace that I've seriously been wearing nonstop. Grace loves playing with the little rings, and is super soothed when the rings make a soft jingle when she's nursing.

#Mother'sPromise | Five Things I Want To Teach My Daughter

Thank you Pampers Premium Care for inspiring this heartfelt post.

Hi ladies! Today I'm getting super personal and opening up about motherhood. As many of you know, I grew up without a mother (more about that in this post here) so becoming a mom, especially to a little girl, is something that I do not take for granted. I'm sharing my #MothersPromise to Gracie!

Here are five things that I promise to teach my sweet little one...

Dear Daughter,

I'm writing to you today to share what I feel are some of the most important lessons/key ideas to living a joyful, healthy, and complete life. Know that there are many more things I will teach you along the way, but for now, here are some of the most important.

Serve Others

This is number one on my list. The only way to survive in this crazy world is to serve one another with joy. I believe that giving to others, and doing things for others is the key to happiness. I cannot express the immense amount of happiness I feel when I get to help someone or show them kindness and compassion. Honestly, humans are made to serve one another, and it is essential that you learn this at a very early age.

You Are Not Alone

In the age where social media is very present in the lives of children and teens, I feel that it's absolutely necessary for you to know that your parents, friends, and family are here for you 24/7, no matter what, all judgement aside. We live in a very terrifying age where bullying forces children to take their own lives. Sorry to be so heavy, but it's just the truth. I want you to understand that we are here for you no matter what you may be going through or facing; you must know that you are not alone.

Love Yourself

Something that every woman, especially, needs to learn how to do. I want you to feel confident in the woman that you are mentally, emotionally, and physically. Body image is something that I want you to understand and love. You need to know that the way you were created is a complete work of art, and you shouldn't ever doubt yourself. True confidence and happiness comes from loving yourself first.

Quality Matters

This one is more for fun, than anything, but when in doubt, choose the quality brand. Make-up, hair color, shoes, clothing. Yes, you may spend a bit extra up front, but you cannot beat the longevity of a great brand. There's a reason my Tory Burch sandals lasted 4 seasons longer than my cheapie sandals! This is why I chose to use Pampers Premium Care from Walmart.com for the first 6 months of your life <3 They were hypoallergenic for your soft, baby skin and of the utmost quality. Sure they were a bit more expensive than other diapers, but it was absolutely worth it.

Be a Leader

Lastly, always lead; never follow. You will grow up with examples of strong characteristics such as determination, motivation, strong will, and maybe a bit of stubbornness (not sure who you will get that from...) and these are all things a great leader must possess. I know that you were born to do something great with your life.

Love, always, and forever,

Your mama bear <3
